29.02.20- Earlier today my two daughters (4 & 6) entered the enchanting studio run by Margie.
Like so many, the daily routine of myself and my two girls (One at kinder and the other beginning Grade 1) is a hectic blur of work, school, kinder and mess. I don’t ever make time to exercise and the girls have energy that knows no bounds. I had been searching for an outlet which would challenge us physically but also let us catch our breath.
After being recommended to Margie at Celebrating Abilities we were met with an enthusiasm equal to ours. Any nervousness I had disappeared within her soothing environment and genuine joy for her work. As the girls admired the decor I checked the door was closed properly, scanned for potential ways in and out and let out a sigh of relief that we had made it safely. I did this because in addition to the physical and mental load I carry as a single mother I spend most of my days scared it will be our last. Even though it’s been 4 years since I separated from my ex-partner there are still very real and ongoing safety concerns. The motivation for coming to the class was to take a moment from the intense pressure of daily life and just enjoy time with my girls. We needed to find something which was engaging and challenging for us all.
As we began our aerial yoga class Margie guided us through with expertise and allowed each of us to practice and eventually achieve each pose as we went. The highlight was undoubtedly a pose called ‘swinging monkey’ which resulted in us laughing historically whilst 5ft off the ground swinging wildly from side to side. The time passed quickly and the end of the class met with groans of it being over and requests to come back. Personally, I felt like I had done a challenging gym session. I also felt lighter in general. I felt great for taking care and challenging my body, I felt blessed to have met Margie and grateful to have a moment of escapism. I was proud my girls had embraced the new experience and am already counting down the days until we go back…
Thanks, Margie!! We are grateful to have the opportunity to attend these weekly classes. thankyou inner north community and ClifRoy Bendigo bank and celebrating Abilities, without you all this would not be possible.
